On the fertile plains of Västergötland, we find the community of Nossebro and Essunga Plantskola. As a fourth-generation family business, they have grown since 1937 to become one of Sweden's most respected nurseries, with a wide range of park and avenue trees, shrubs, berry plants and perennials.
Essunga's plants are delivered to gardens and large public spaces throughout the country. With certification according to the standard Svenskt Sigill for Climate & Working Conditions, sustainability is a natural part of the business in terms of quality, working environment and environmental responsibility. As general knowledge about food supply declines, nurseries are making it easier for both businesses and private individuals to start producing their own food by selling fruit trees and berry bushes. Even during the Second World War, Essunga helped to secure the country's food supply by producing fruit trees.
Essunga saw the potential of integrating biochar production into its business early on. By mixing its own EBC-certified biochar into its soils, the nursery has been able to reduce its use of peat by around 70%. Biochar improves soil structure, binds carbon and is used in the nursery's own cultivation as well as being sold on.
Essunga Plantskola shows that tradition and innovation can go hand in hand with plants that help both people and the environment to thrive. To learn more about Essunga Nursery, visit their website.
By purchasing certified carbon credits from Essunga Nursery, you are helping to accelerate the widespread use of biochar and show other businesses the potential of biochar production. This is necessary to ensure that carbon credits remain available in the future.

Biochar can be packed in different ways. Here in easy to manage bigbags.

To solve the climate challenge we need all types of carbon removals, but to be able to hold one of the solutions in your hands is pretty awesome.

For Essunga's soils biochar has created a successful peat substitution.

Biochar is used in a variety of plants, bushes and trees at Essunga.
